\u201cClimate change is a reality that affects us all, to be addressed by placing the human person at the center of every action we take to protect nature.\u201d With these words, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani spoke on behalf of the Government, delegated by the Prime Minister, at the Climate Summit currently taking place in Bel\u00e9m, Brazil.<\/p>\n
Just days before the opening of COP30, Tajani reiterated Italy\u2019s position\u2014also decisive in the agreement reached a few days ago in Brussels by the EU Environment Ministers\u2014for an approach that combines rationality and balance. \u201cThere can be no fight against climate change without taking into account the social dimension,\u201d Tajani declared, urging that ideological approaches imposing unsustainable and unattainable goals be set aside, as they risk even harming Europe\u2019s economic, industrial, and social system.<\/p>\n
The Minister recalled Italy\u2019s commitment to the energy transition, with renewable sources now covering 50% of electricity production. In this perspective, it is important to make use of all available technologies. Italy, together with Brazil and Japan, has promoted an initiative in favor of biofuels, aiming to quadruple the production of sustainable fuels by 2035.<\/p>\n
In all key sectors for environmental protection\u2014agriculture, water, but also health and technology\u2014Italy is ready to share its expertise and best practices. Tajani highlighted the main initiatives in which the country is engaged, in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement, which this year marks its 10th anniversary. In particular, he mentioned the Climate Fund, through which Italy is channeling more than 4 billion euros, especially toward projects in Africa.<\/p>\n
