The fall on 26 October of El Fasher, in North Darfur, into the hands of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) after a siege lasting more than 18 months, marks a dramatic worsening of Sudan’s already devastating civil war, with potentially catastrophic humanitarian consequences.

Italy expresses grave concern at reports emerging from El Fasher of large‑scale atrocities, summary executions, and deliberate acts of violence against civilians committed by the RSF.

Italy calls on all parties to the conflict to immediately cease hostilities in the Darfur region and throughout Sudan, and to respect international humanitarian law and human rights. Civilians must be protected, and humanitarian organizations must be guaranteed safe access to crisis areas.

Italy has never abandoned the Sudanese people, continuing to provide assistance to civilians following the outbreak of the civil war, both within Sudan and in neighboring countries.
