With the launch of the first Italian artificial satellite, San Marco 1, in 1964, Italy became the third country in the world, after the United States and the Soviet Union, to place its own satellite into orbit. To promote and highlight Italy’s role in space research and innovation, the Italian National Space Day (GNS) is celebrated on December 16. On this occasion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation shares a series of images with data and information on Italy’s contribution to the space sector, as well as a motivational video message from Italian astronaut Anthea Comellini addressed to young people interested in space.
