The founder of the Community of Sant’Egidio, Prof. Andrea Riccardi, visited Abuja from 14 to 16 February to meet representatives of the local chapter and to inaugurate the new Community House in Abuja, an event also attended by Ambassador Mengoni. On Monday morning, Prof. Riccardi, together with the Ambassador, met the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, representing the President of Nigeria. Present at the meeting were the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ozukwu, the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, the Archbishop of Abuja, Ignatius Kaigama, and the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Daniel Okoh.

The discussion focused on the role and activities of the Community in promoting peace, interreligious dialogue and support for the poor, refugees and people in situations of severe vulnerability, as well as on the actions undertaken by the Nigerian Government to ensure the security of all citizens.
