The meeting of the Global Alliance for the Two-State Solution opened yesterday afternoon at the Farnesina and will continue this morning with a high-level segment co-chaired by Minister Tajani and Saudi Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, with the participation of Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian. The two-day discussions will conclude this afternoon with a closed-door session dedicated to interreligious dialogue.
Yesterday’s session brought together around 30 delegations at the technical level, including the co-chairs of the eight working groups of the New York Conference and other countries active in the dossier. The High Representative for Gaza, Nickolay Mladenov, joined remotely, with a mandate to coordinate transitional governance, reconstruction, and the implementation of the 20-Point Peace for Gaza Plan.
The session aimed to assess progress in implementing the New York Declaration, exploring new synergies to advance the peace process through the implementation of UN Resolution 2803 and the Board of Peace.
The Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution was established in 2024 at the initiative of Saudi Arabia, Norway, and the European Union. Its work, focused on identifying guiding principles and proposals to implement the two-state solution, culminated in the New York Declaration, the final document of the Conference for the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian question and the implementation of the two-state solution, co-chaired on July 28–30, 2025 by France and Saudi Arabia. Italy played a leading role in the Conference and in negotiating the Declaration, as co-chair together with Indonesia of the Security Working Group.
